MONTESQUIEU.
The Temple of Gnidus. Paris, Le Mire, 1772. In-8, red morocco, golden lace, decorated back, inside lace, golden edges on marbling (Capé - Masson-Debonnelle sr). Edition with text entirely engraved by Drouet, decorated with a frontispiece, an engraved title, a vignette and 9 figures of Charles Eisen engraved on copper by Le Mire. Very nice copy, very large margins, with which we played: - 5 portraits of Montesquieu. - a portrait of the King of England, to whom the edition is dedicated (19th century steel engraving). - the continuation of De Sève for the 1742 edition, including a frontispiece and 7 vignettes. - Desrais' sequel to Leonardo's Temple of Gnidus, an imitation of Montesquieu. - Regnault's suite for the 1795 edition. - a sequence of 8 figures on china before the letter, unsigned. Remarkable lace binding, perfect imitation of a Derome binding.
