COCHEM (Martin de)
Der grosse Baüm-Garten [...]. Sultzbach, Johann Peter Wolff, 1746. In-8, 9 ff.n.ch., 672 pp. and 6 ff.n.ch.: red morocco, gilt decoration of large lace-like rocaille irons on the plates, spine decorated, green title coin, silvered roulette on the cups, gilt and chiselled edges (contemporary German binding). This devotional treatise, known as Der Grosse Baüm-Garten, or The Great Spiritual Garden, was very popular in Germany in the 17th and 18th centuries. Composed by Martin de Cochem, a Capuchin friar and German preacher born in the 1630s and who died in 1712, it contributed greatly to the piety of Catholics across the Rhine. The illustration consists of a frontispiece and 16 engraved intaglio plates. Remarkable German binding with large rocaille decoration, with gilt and chiselled edges. From the Claude Lebédel library. Small tear at the head of folio Bb1 with loss of letters in the running title.
