Snuffbox which would have belonged to General-in-Chief Bonaparte during the Egyptian Campaign. Rectangular, concave, tortoiseshell, with softened edges and gilded brass hinges. Lid decorated with a small gold lozenge with a handwritten note. 5 x 7.5 cm. "This snuffbox belonged to the Emperor Napoleon when he was in Egypt General in Chief. It was given by him, being in Cairo, to Mr. Doctor Desgenettes, chief doctor of the Army of the East. General Sazan (Gazan?) got it from Doctor Desgenettes." B.E. (crack in lid).
