MAMBILA CREST, CAMEROON Wood with a crusty... - Lot 97 - Giquello
MAMBILA CREST, CAMEROON Wood with a crusty brown patina, vegetable fibres H. 28 cm - L. 23 cm Mambila crest, the features of the face inscribed in a concave heart, eyes and mouth, in medium relief, delimited by a thick ring. The bristly headdress is described by short plant stems. The whole, expressionist, is covered with a crusty patina that reinforces the great presence of the work. Located in the north of the Bamum country in Cameroon, on the border of the Benue valley in Nigeria, the Mambila are essentially known for their statuary. The object presented here is a rare testimony to the smaller corpus of masks.
