THE DEAD ASS. Paris, Bourdin, 1842. Large in-8, long-grained brown half-maroquin with corners, spine ornamented lengthwise, small gilt VC cipher in tail, head gilt, untrimmed, cover and back (Noulhac). FIRST PRINT. Portrait of the author engraved on steel by Revel, 12 plates on stained background and numerous woodcut vignettes after Tony Johannot. Note the elegance of the decoration on the spine obtained by repeating a coiled iron struck on a gold dotted background, with the nerves mosaic in black and underlined with a gold roulette wheel. Wet stamp on the title, unidentified.
