Illustration: 451 copper engravings after the drawings of Claude Aubriet (1665-1742), who will become the main artist of the Jardin du Roi (future Jardin des Plantes), and with a frontispiece by Vermeulen at the beginning of each volume. French bindings from the end of the 18th century. Fawn calfskin, gilt decoration with a fine floral roulette, very ornate and gilt spines, gilt edges. Provenance: rare label from a bookseller in Lyon around 1795: From the catalogue of Maire, bookseller rue Mercière, n° 46, in Lyon Rousseurs in 2F7, missing in the lower margin of pl. 150, pl. 410-430 with a light and old angular restoration, some snakes to peel off.
