[ESTIENNE (Henri)].
Two dialogues Of the new language François, italianizé, & otherwise desguizé, mainly between the courtiers of that time. S.l.n.d. Geneva, Henri Estienne, 1578]. In-8, olive morocco, gilt filets frame, smooth decorated spine (Modern binding in the taste of the 17th century). Picot, Rothschild, vol. I, no. 323. - Renouard, Estienne, pp. 146 and 414-416. Original edition, very rare and sought-after. The work, which takes the form of dialogues between Celtophile, Philausone and Philalethe, is part of its author's ambitious project to highlight the French language in Catherine de Medici's Paris, where jargon mixed with French, Italian and Latin reigns (cf. In French in the text, no. 62). Estienne deploys her satirical and polemical verve in the service of the French language. Slight wetness at the beginning and the end of the volume, slightly dirty title.
