Beautiful signed letter from the author: For Claude Farrère, my master, my colleague and my friend, with all my gratitude, Marcel Pagnol. In memory of April 4th 1946. Marcel Pagnol was elected to the Académie française on April 4th 1946, in Maurice Donnay's chair. In March 1946, he had confided in his friend Claude Farrère, who had been elected to the Académie eleven years earlier: "I would love to be a member of the Académie: but in a nice way, so that no one would be hurt (see L'Académie française au fil des lettres, pp. 292-295).
