Paris, Curmer, 1841-1842. 9 volumes large in-8, blue half-maroquin with corners, spine decorated with cold filets, not trimmed (R. Petit). First edition of this monumental publication, one of the masterpieces of the romantic book. It is divided into nine volumes, five for Paris, three for the Province, and one for the Prisme, and contains more than 400 texts written by the jewels of the literature of the time: Honoré de Balzac, Petrus Borel, Théophile Gautier, Gérard de Nerval, Charles Nodier, etc. Remarkable illustration, in first edition, including 8 frontispieces, a folding map of France in colours, an etched equestrian portrait of Napoleon, 405 (out of 406) wood-engraved plates and nearly 1500 wood-engraved vignettes in the text, after Honoré Daumier, Gavarni, Eugène Lami, Tony Johannot, Grandville, Henry Monnier, Traviès, etc SUPERB EXAMPLE, carefully washed and perfectly set.
