BIBLIOGRAPHY - SCIENTIFIC EDITION BRUNET... - Lot 6 - Giquello
BIBLIOGRAPHY - SCIENTIFIC EDITION BRUNET Pierre Gustave (1805-1896). Set of 24 autograph letters signed, addressed to Georges Charpentier his publisher, written in Bordeaux from November 14, 1854 to February 20, 1860. 24 pp. in-4 and in-8. Address and postmarks. Very interesting set in which we follow this bibliographer in his research and writing work. The first letter evokes an idea, which will evolve until the publication of the Mémoires du comte de Grammont. On November 14, 1854, he thus announces to G. Charpentier "You seem to adopt my idea of giving the Memoirs of the Count of Grammont by Hamilton. (...)"; on September 24, 1855 "Have you finally obtained communication of the papers in the hands of the author of the Bookseller's manual? Do you want us to discuss the memoirs of the terrible warrior of the 16th century? I believe that one could add curious notes to them, which would make them a completely new work (...)"; On January 6, 1857, he "(...) began and made good progress on the work of annotating the Memoirs of Grammont (...)"; on January 24 he asked him to "(...) borrow the edition given in England in 1792, 4° or in 1812, 2 volumes. It contains notes and clarifications that should be consulted. (...)"; February 18 he evokes a new project "We will see later for Mme d'Epinay (...)"; March 5, 1858 " (...) I have prepared the work for the Memoirs of Grammont but before putting the final touch to it, before sending it to you, I would like to rewrite a few lines from you, to know when you intend to begin the printing (....)"; on April 24 he puts "the last hand" to the Memoirs of Grammont, in the following letter (September 6) he evokes problems of printing and proposes the services of another printer. On November 9 he is pleased to see the Mémoires de Mme d'Epinay announced by M. Lacour. The last four letters deal with the end of the printing work, the reception of the first volumes and the success of the Mémoires du comte de Grammont.
