MOLIERE
Oeuvres. A Paris, chez Guillaume de Luyne, 1666. 2 volumes in-12 (145 x 85 mm) of 391 (miscalculated), [2] pp. ; 480 pp. in blue morocco, triple gilt fillet on the boards, spine with ornamented nerves, gilt edges (Bound by Rivière & son). first COLLECTIVE EDITION of Molière's Works with followed pagination. It is decorated with 2 copper engraved frontispieces representing Molière, by Francois Chauveau, with his signature in the plate. It contains the following pieces : Les Précieuses ridicules ; Sganarelle ou Le Cocu imaginaire ; L'Estourdy ; Le Dépit amoureux ; Les Facheux ; L'Escole des Maris ; L'Escole des femmes ; La Critique de l'escole des femmes ; La Princesse d'Elide. The privilege of this edition having been shared between the booksellers Gabriel Quinet, Thomas Joly, Charles de Sercy, Louis Bilaine, Guillaume de Luyne, Jean Guignard fils, Etienne Loyson and Claude Barbin, it is extremely rare to find copies with volumes I and II bearing the name of the same publisher, which is the case of our copy. A few very light freckles passim. A very nice copy, perfectly established. Very rare and sought after. Guilbert, Bibliographie des Oeuvres de Molière published in the 17th century: "rightly considered as the first collective edition of Moliere's works. Very rare" (vol. II, p. 565). Tchemerzine, VIII, 352. Lhermitte 431.
