VIGNY (Alfred de).
Servitude and military greatness. Paris, Félix Bonnaire, Victor Magen, 1835. In-8, red morocco, jansenist, spine with gilt title, lining edge to edge in morocco of the same color, large inner frame decorated with six compartments drawn by straight and curved fillets and decorated with foliage, burgundy silk endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover (Marius Michel). First edition. On the title page, a letter from the author to Pierre-Victorien Lottin de Laval (1810-1903), a Norman novelist born in Orbec and who died in Menneval, to whom we owe, among others, a biography of Marie de Médicis and historical novels like Robert le Magnifique and Les Truands. The latter later offered his copy to a man named Georges Simon, as indicated by this handwritten note below the shipment: Offert ce souvenir d'un illustre ami à M. Georges Simon, Lottin de Laval. Beautiful copy in morocco lined by Marius Michel, the lining, decorated with compartments decorated with foliage, inspired by 16th century bindings. Very slight stains to some rare leaves.
