ESTIENNE (Robert).
Dictionarium seu Latinae Linguae Thesaurus. Editio secunda. Paris, Robert Estienne, 1543. 3 volumes in-folio, ivory stiff vellum, cold fillet, large Arabic-style cartouche stamped in the center with the middle in reserve, ribbed spine, title in ink (Binding of the period). Renouard, p. 55. - PMM, n°62. Definitive edition of one of the best ancient dictionaries of the Latin language, by the printer and humanist Robert Estienne. It is more exact than the original edition of 1532 and the following one of 1536, "especially richer" says Renouard, "not only in words, but also in quotations of Latin authorities". Robert Estiennes Latin Thesaurus remains to this day the only complete work of its kind in the field of Latin lexicography; no other work has yet replaced or surpassed it (Schreiber, n°68). Large and beautiful typographical mark on the title. Neat printing in small type on two columns. Beautiful copy in contemporary vellum. Aureole of wetness at the upper corner of the first 10 leaves of volume I, rare freckles. Joints cracked on the first cover of volume I.
