MAGRITTE René - Lot 184
MAGRITTE René SELF-LETTER SIGNED TO JEAN SCUTENAIRE. 1937. 1 page and a half, envelope retained. Important letter addressed to Jean Scutenaire by Magritte, concerning the exhibition of three surrealist painters: Magritte, Man Ray and Tanguy, at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels in 1937: "Here is a little opportunity to place a little text on me Tanguy and Man Ray. It would be necessary to knock Mesens on Thursday to do well because he will already decide then on the form and the contents in his catalogue... for me we had very well said that: I tried to repays the word seems excellent to me I will operate on the objects a research which would bring to light an obscure idea attached to them (in psychoanalysis one does the same thing for the dreams)... Tanguy would show on the other hand singular objects... he makes us attend an incredible show and plunges the spectator as I also do it in an exceptional state... Man Ray like me seems to think of objects instead of thinking of himself like traditional artists. His ingenuity is very great and he discovers ways to make luxury objects crisp". We enclose the exhibition catalogue of the three surrealist painters Magritte, Man Ray and Tanguy. Traces of tape to consolidate the letter. EXTRAORDINARY LETTER ON MAGRITTE'S JUDGMENT OF HIS WORK AND THAT OF MAN RAY AND TANGUY.
