BALZAC (Honoré de). History of the Emperor told in a barn by an old soldier. Paris, Henri Leclerc, 1904. In-4, olive morocco, one incised and painted leather embedded in each plate, spine decorated, gilt fillets inside, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine, half morocco folder, case (Ch. Meunier 1905). 14 watercolours by Alphonse Lalauze, etched in colours by his father Adolphe Lalauze. Edition at 300 copies, this one of the 100 first copies on Marais vellum paper with a black suite. Copy of Arthur Meyer, stuffed, as usual, with various documents: a Report to the Emperor with an autograph of Napoleon, an autograph note of Balzac, a watercolour by E. Boutigny representing Napoleon and dedicated to Arthur Meyer. Meyer had another watercolour by Alphonse Lalauze, dedicated to himself and dated 1909, added after the binding at the end of the volume. The binding bears Arthur Meyer's mark, the Gallic cockerel, emblem of his journal. Spine of the folder faded.
