CORSO (Rinaldo)
Dichiaratione fatta sopra la seconda parte delle Rime della Divina Vittoria Collonna [sic], Marchesa di Pescara. S.l.n.n., 1542. In-8, soft vellum, calligraphic title on spine (18th century binding). First edition of the comments of Rinaldo Corso (1525-1582), a writer active at the court of Correggio, on the second part of the spiritual sonnets of the Italian poetess Vittoria Colonna (1490-1547). Written at the age of sixteen and dedicated to the poetess Veronica Gambara, Countess of Correggio, these commentaries constitute the first published literary criticism of this woman of letters who was close to artistic circles and who was a friend of Michelangelo. Only one other copy of this edition, incomplete, is known to exist, preserved in the library of the Istituto italiano per gli studi storici in Naples (see A Companion to Vittoria Colonna, 2016, p. 224). A second edition, long considered the original until the discovery of this copy in Naples, appeared the following year in Bologna. Wet stamp of Prince Pietro Odesclachi (1789-1856) on the title.
