LOUŸS (Pierre).— CALBET (Antoine). - Lot 178
LOUŸS (Pierre).— CALBET (Antoine). Trial proofs of my illustrations for the work of Pierre Louÿs. S.d. [ca. 1900?]. In-8 square, bradel marbled vellum, frame painted in gold and light gray on the boards, smooth spine decorated with an original drawing in color, gilt head, untrimmed (Binding of the time). Apparently a unique copy, comprising 52 plates engraved by Antoine Calbet, printed in colors on wove paper and mounted on tabs. The volume opens and closes with 2 original drawings in pencil and sanguine by the artist, both different, one serving as a title page, depicting a naked woman carrying a titled banner, the other serving as a bas-de-lampe. Each print is preceded by a sheet bearing a handwritten quotation from Louÿs' works: Aphrodite, les Chansons de Bilitis, la Femme et le pantin, les Aventures du roi Pausole, Psyché, etc. Drawing faded on the back.
