INTERESTING COLLECTION of chronicles covering the major events of the Hundred Years War. The first treatise, in its original edition, was published by Claude Menard and is dedicated to Guillaume du Vair. It is a chronicle originally written in 1387 at the request of Jean d'Estouteville, which presents the wars, battles and conquests during the reigns of kings John and Charles V. It is adorned with a beautiful copper-engraved portrait of Du Guesclin. Barbier, II, 725. The second treatise, given by Théodore Godefroy, contains the memorable events from 1413 to 1457. It retraces through the life of Artus III, Duke of Brittany and Constable of France, the history of Brittany during the Hundred Years War. As for the last treaty, it is the famous "scandalous chronicle" recounting the memorable things that happened during the reign of Louis XI. It is decorated with a beautiful portrait of the king engraved on copper. Small stains and light wetness on some leaves, one leaf angularly missing, another stained. A very nice copy, nicely established by Capé.
