FERRARE DU TOT, Charles de - Lot 32
FERRARE DU TOT, Charles de Relation of the court of Rome, made in the year 1661 to the council of the pregadi, by the excellent lord angelo corrado. Leide [Amsterdam], chez Almarigo [Elzevier], 1663. Small in-12 (137 x 77 mm) of [4] ff., 136 pp. red morocco, triple gilt fillet around the boards, gilt coat of arms in the center, spine finely decorated, decorated edges, edges speckled (period binding). ELZÉVIRIAN EDITION OF THIS CLASSIC DESCRIBING THE ATMOSPHERE AND INTRIGUES OF THE VATICAN IN 1660. Under the pseudonym of Angelo Corraro is Charles de Ferrare du Tot, king's counselor in the chamber of the parliament of Normandy in Rouen. The work is dedicated to Mathias Van Beuningen and was printed under a false address in Amsterdam by Daniel and Lodewijk Elzevier, from the original edition, typed the same year, in Rouen, by Laurent Maurry under the pseudonym of Almarigo Lorens. A superb and precious copy bound in contemporary red morocco with the coat of arms of Jean-Baptiste COLBERT, testifying to the interest that the royal entourage had in the intrigues of the Holy See. Faint foxing, some minor rubbing and stains to the binding. PROVENANCE: Jean-Baptiste Colbert ex-libris manuscript "Bibliotheca colbertina" on the title and arms. Duchesne (handwritten bookplate on the title) Giannalisa Feltrinelli (bookplate and dry stamp)
