S.l.n.n. [Brussels, Foppens], 1667. In-12 (132 x 81 mm) of 360 pp. in old red morocco, triple gilt fillet on the boards with gilt arms in the center, ornate ribbed spine, gilt roulette on the edges and the covers, gilt edges (period binding). Despite the mention of second edition on the title, this edition is actually the third one, of the most famous book of the author. A polemical and pamphleteering work in which Lisola, a fierce opponent of Louis XIV, a Franc-Comtois by origin and a skilled diplomat in the service of the Habsburgs, refutes the hegemonic policy of France in Europe and gives serious arguments against the invasion of the Netherlands and Belgium. "Hugues de Lyonne declared that one could not answer anything serious and that one could only put a price on the head of the author" (Aligny, 597). Willems (n°2030) indicates that the baron de Lisola declared himself the author in another of his works entitled Dénoûment des intrigues du Temps. Precious and sulphurous copy of a work fiercely written against the politics of Louis XIV, in morocco with the arms of one of his main ministers and trusted men, Jean-Baptiste COLBERT. It bears on the title the mention in pen "Bibliotheca Colbertina". Engraved bookplate of Célestin Moreau (ant holding a feather on a parchment), author of a bibliography on the mazarinades. Pale marginal spotting to the first 9 leaves, 3 leaves slightly stained and very pale freckles to a few others, slight rubbing to the binding.
