LONGUS Les Amours de Daphnis et Chloé. Translation of 1782. Mithylène [Reims, Cazin], 1783. In-8, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, coat of arms (pine cone) in the corners and coat of arms in the center, spine decorated, same coat of arms repeated in the caissons, inner scroll, gilt edges (period binding). First edition of the translation by Abbé Mulot, librarian and later Abbé de Saint-Victor, member of the Legislative Assembly. It is decorated with a frontispiece with a medallion portrait of the translator, a figure engraved by David after Robin and 14 small unsigned vignettes. This edition is one of the most beautiful by Cazin. One of the very rare copies on hollande, reprinted in large in-8 format. A copy offered by the translator to the Chevalier de Piis (1755-1832), author of tales published by Cazin in 1781, secretary-interpreter of Charles X; bound with his coat of arms and bearing this handwritten ex-dono signed by the Chevalier on the first endpaper, Ex Dono, Amici mei, D. F. V. Mulot..., it was enriched with the suite of figures of the Regent engraved by Audran (a frontispiece and 28 engravings), the figure known as des petits pieds due to the count of Caylus, as well as a portrait of the knight de Piis engraved by Gaucher. From the libraries of Van der Helle (1868, n°1228) and Horace de Landau, with bookplate. Some cracks in the skin of the upper cover.
