Paris, Denys Thierry and Claude Barbin, 1675. In-12, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, coat of arms in the center, spine decorated, royal fleur-de-lis repeated in the caissons, lining of olive green morocco, inner lace with small irons, gilt edges on marble (Period binding). First edition of the translation by the sieur de Chastenet of this work by Severinus de Monsambano who is none other than the pseudonym of Samuel von Pufendorf (1632-1694), German jurist and historian. A precious copy of the Grand Dauphin, son of Louis XIV, bound with his coat of arms, in a fine lined binding. Louis de France (1661-1711) did not reign because he died before his father. Possessing a solid culture, helped by Bossuet who was his preceptor, the Dauphin invested himself in the political affairs of the kingdom from the 1680s and commanded the German army during the war of the League of Augsburg (1688-1697). The binding, in red morocco lined with olive morocco, is attributable to Boyet: the rich interior lace is identical to that which frames the boards of a binding bearing the arms of the Marquise de Chamillart, reproduced in the Esmerian catalog (II, 1972, n°67) and given as executed in his workshop. Beautiful royal provenance. Marginal repairs to leaves B2 and B4, small stain in the lower margin of leaf G6 and adjacent leaves. A slightly cracked spine on the height of a box.
