OFFICE DE NOTRE DAME, À L'USAGE DE ROME. Revised, corrected & increased again, & put in better order than before, with the Hymns & Proses of the year. Paris, Nicolas Gasse, 1625. In-8, red morocco, three frames drawn by triple fillets and a gilt roulette with fleurons at the corners, the central panel decorated with spandrels and a medallion in the center in monstrance decorated with small irons, the middle left in reserve, traces of fasteners, ornate spine, inner roulette, gilt edges (Binding of the time). Book of hours printed in large type, in black and red, illustrated with 22 very beautiful engravings drawn and finely engraved in intaglio by Matheus: one on the title and 21 full-page, including 12 full-length portraits of the Apostles in floral frames for the calendar. A fine copy. Very elegant 17th century binding, decorated with roulettes and small irons very similar to those of Le Gascon. It can be compared with the Histoire générale du Serrail de Baudier (Paris, Cramoisy, 1626) from the Esmerian library (II, 1972, n°77), issued from an unidentified workshop, where the same model of poly-lobed central medallion decorated with small irons is found. Bound in suite: COTON (le père). Devotional Oraisons appropriate to all kinds of Exercises & Christian actions. Paris, Henry Dauplet, 1625. Old handwritten bookplate on a guard: Rosalie Chardin la Cadette. From the library of Édouard Pelay (1842-1921), president and founder of the Société rouennaise des bibliophiles, with his bookplate. Some light foxing, tear without missing leaf Cc4.
