TABLETTES ROYALES DE RENOMMÉE, ou Almanach général d'indication des négocians, artistes célèbres, et fabricans des six corps, arts et métiers, de la ville de Paris, et autres villes du Royaume, &c. Paris, Desnos, Dessain, Lacombe, and at the Author's office, s.d. [c. 1772]. In-8, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, coat of arms in the center and coat of arms (a sardine) in the corners, spine decorated, same coat of arms repeated, inner scroll, gilt edges (period binding). Almanac presented for the first time to the Dauphin in 1772 and whose dedication epistle, undated, is signed by Roze de Chantoiseau, former director of the Bureau général d'Indication. Engraved folding calendar, dated with a pen in 1773. The work is full of interesting information on the different guilds and trades of the city of Paris. It gathers the names and addresses of the best known of them: haberdashers, grocers, shoemakers, goldsmiths, farmers, starch makers, apothecaries, "bathers, steamers", bouquetieres, brocanteurs, pork butchers, fanciers, tinsmiths, gardeners, engravers, printers, booksellers, bookbinders, tide merchants, wine merchants, "vuidangeurs", etc. The names of some of the best-known merchants of certain French cities such as Abbeville, Caen, Clermont, Lyon, Marseille, and also of large cities or foreign capitals are given. There is also a section entitled Remedies and approved secrets and another one entitled Miscellaneous objects and news. At the end, a list of streets and districts of the city and suburbs of Paris, and a table of departures and arrivals of couriers in the main cities of the kingdom. Copy of Gabriel de Sartine (1729-1801), lieutenant general of police of Louis XV, bound with his arms: lieutenant of police since 1759, he joined the Ministry of the Navy only with the accession of Louis XVI in 1774. The binding may have come from the workshop of Cornu, rue des Amandiers: the name of this bookbinder, who held the title of ordinary binder of M. le Lieutenant Général de Police, is mentioned in this work along with other bookbinders in Paris: Anguerand, Bradel, Godreau, Laferté, Pasdeloup, etc. From the Bruno Monnier library, at the castle of Mantry in the Jura (bookplate). Some foxing, uniform for some quires, tear without loss of text at the upper corner of f. O4. Insignificant damage to the paper, leaf L3.
