AUBERT (Guillaume).
Ɵ elegy on the trespas of the late Ioach. Dubellay Ang. Paris, De l'Imprimerie de Fédéric Morel, 1560. booklet in-4, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate spine, gilt title throughout, interior lace, gilt edges (Godillot). First edition. It is dedicated to Jean de Morel, poet and patron of the arts who supported the young poets of the Pléiade, in particular Du Bellay for whom he became the executor of his will : the way of regret that everyone has for the loss of a learned man, is very small compared to the mortal anguish that those suffer, those who besides the common complaint of the letters, still endure their private passions for having lost a firm & constant friend. At the death of Joachim du Bellay (1522-1560), Guillaume Aubert, a poet lawyer from Poitou, was asked by Morel to put the deceased's papers in order for the publication of the first collective edition of the poet's works; the latter appeared in Paris at Fédéric Morel in 1568-1569. Elegantly bound booklet. The title and the last page are yellowed. Dumoulin, n°43. - Diane Barbier-Mueller, Inventaire..., n°13.
