AUBERT (Guillaume).
Ɵ The Retrenchments. S.l.n.d. [1585]. In-8, marbled calf, smooth spine decorated with the title in full, red edges (18th century binding). Hymn composed in praise of Christophe de Thou (1508-1582), former patron of the author, the Latin translation of Scévole de Sainte-Marthe printed opposite the French text. On the verso of the title is a notice entitled À la posterité, dated Paris, pendant la guerre, au moys de Décembre, 1585, in which the poet gives indications on his Retranchements and says he leaves them to the fate of posterity. A short-margined copy with some foxing. The binding is rubbed and the lower cover is missing. Diane Barbier-Mueller, Inventaire..., n°14.
