Ɵ Les Œuvres poétiques. Paris, Toussainct du Bray, 1613-1614. 2 parts in one volume in-8, green morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate spine, interior lace, gilt edges (Niédrée). First collective edition, decorated with 2 title-frontispices engraved on copper by Léonard Gaultier. The first part includes the Amours, which had first appeared in 1606, and the second, dedicated to the queen Marguerite de Valois, gathers Meslanges and funeral verses. Among the Amours are two interesting poems celebrating the arrival in Paris of Brazilian Indians in 1612, respectively entitled Cartels pour une mascarade de Sauvages and Aux chevaliers (cf. cat. Berès, Des Valois à Henri IV, n°12). Vital d'Audiguier, a soldier-poet from Rouergue, entered the service of Marguerite de Valois after having escaped from the Ligueurs and supported many battles. He was responsible for the translation of six of Cervantes' Novelas and several novels. He died murdered in 1624.
