COURTIN DE CISSÉ (Jacques de).
Ɵ Les Euvres poétiques. Paris, Pour Gilles Beys, 1581. 2 parts in one volume in-12, royal blue morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate spine, inner lace, gilt edges on marble (Lortic fils). First and only edition of the poetic works of Jacques de Courtin de Cissé (circa 1560-1584), a gentleman from Perche, who died at the age of 24, and who was one of the most graceful poets of the 16th century. The first part, dedicated to Anne de Joyeuse, includes about 150 sonnets gathered under the title Amours de Rosine, an Épithalame d'Anne de Joyeuse & de Marguerite de Lorraine, and about ten odes, including the poem Avril, which recalls Ronsard and Belleau. The introductory pieces contain pieces in Latin and French by Scaliger, Bonnefons, Durant, Perrot, Claude Binet, etc. Then, in separate pagination with a special title page, there is a translation in verse of ten Hymns in honor of God composed in the 4th century by the neo-Platonic philosopher Synesius of Cyrene after his conversion to Christianity. A wide-margined copy in a very attractive binding by Lortic fils, with elegantly decorated spine, the boxes decorated with small filigree irons. Missing the last leaf G4 (blank) of the second part. Restoration in the blank of the title and in the lower corner, as well as in the corner of the last five leaves of the volume. J. P. Barbier-Mueller, IV-1, n°77 ("very difficult to find"). - Diane Barbier-Mueller, Inventaire..., n°138-139.
