DEIMIER (Pierre de).
Ɵ Les Illustres avantures. Lyon, Thibaud Ancelin, 1603. In-12, soft vellum (period binding). First edition, dedicated to Blaise de Capisucco, governor and lieutenant general of Avignon and county of Venice. The work includes 10 illustrious amorous "adventures", i.e. long gallant and moral poems featuring mythological characters (Phaeton, Echo and Narcissus, Actaeon, etc.) or imaginary subjects, as well as poetic mixtures (translations of Ariosto, Spanish verse, etc.). Pierre de Deimier, born around 1580 in Avignon, published in 1610 L'Académie de l'Art poétique, a great theoretical treatise on poetry. His literary gods are Ronsard, Desportes, Garnier, du Bartas. [...] This double influence, of Desportes and du Bartas, of the Italian and Spanish influences, his great love which is unhappy, make of Deimier a baroque poet (Pierre Colotte, Pierre de Deimier, poet and theorist of the poetry, 1953). Copy in contemporary vellum. Old handwritten bookplate crossed out on the title. Label and wet stamp on the title of a man named Adrien Gasparht, from the town of Orange. Some foxing, wetness at the head of the quires. Diane Barbier-Mueller, Inventaire..., n°145.
