Ɵ Œuvres morales, et diversifiées en histoires, plein de beaux exemples, enrichies d'enseignemens vertueux, & embellies de plusieurs sentences & discourses. Paris, Guillaume Chaudière, 1575. In-8, ivory vellum overlay, traces of binding (contemporary binding). First edition of this compilation divided into six books and dealing with various subjects, such as astronomy, astrology, ancient customs, melancholic, manic and frenetic people, events and dreams, etc. Among others, one will quote this curious passage on the nature & strength of the Laictue & to whom it serves or harms, and, among others, these two misogynistic attacks: Of the evils & miseries which were in the world by the bad women, and Of the barbaric cruelty & horrible tyranny of some women. Among the introductory pieces are a Latin piece by Jean Dorat, and above all an unpublished sonnet by Ronsard (good Ronsard! according to J. P. Barbier-Mueller) which will not be included in the collective editions of the poet : À Monsieur des Caurres, sur son livre de Miscellanées. Jean des Caurres (1542-1587) was born in Moreuil in the Somme and became parish priest of Pernois and principal of the college of Amiens. His Œuvres morales is his main work. Old handwritten ex-dono at the bottom of the title. Handwritten note of the 19th century pasted on a guard, where the author is accused of plagiarism. Worm gallery affecting several leaves, mostly repaired, affecting current titles and headlines and sometimes deleting letters. Some foxing, wetness on the last 6 leaves. J. P. Barbier-Mueller, II-2, n°55. - Diane Barbier-Mueller, Inventaire..., n°158.
