Lyon, Michel Jove, 1561. In-16, green morocco, double cold fillet, gilt title on the spine, interior scroll, gilt edges (H. Duru). A very rare pamphlet in which the author depicts a shepherdess and a pig keeper who try to fight with their poor strength a terrible and hideous dragon, which is none other than an allegorical figure of the Protestant heresy. The original edition was published in Paris and dates from 1559. Artus Désiré (c. 1510-1579) was one of the most virulent and talented opponents of the Reformation. We owe him innumerable poetic works where he is the prophet of the religion and denounces the Protestant threat which reigns in France. From the library of E. Délicourt, with ex-libris engraved by Maurice Leloir. Copy a little short of margins, some cut cuffs (notably on leaves d4 and e7). Paper a little yellowed, small restorations of paper in the margin. Denis Crouzet, Les Guerriers de Dieu..., pp. 191-192. - Diane Barbier-Mueller, Inventaire..., n°159.
