Green Tara, Tibet, 19th century Tempera on... - Lot 92 - Giquello
Green Tara, Tibet, 19th century Tempera on canvas Surrounded by a beautiful landscape and pavilions, Syamatara is seated in royal ease on a lotus throne, leaning against a radiant mandorla. Her right hand makes the gesture of teaching, she is richly adorned with a flowery tiara, bracelets and necklaces with pendants and is dressed in a very beautiful dhoti with gold motifs. The various episodes surrounding her illustrate the theme of the "eight great fears". Devotees invoke Tara to be protected from these perils. From left to right and from top to bottom: The perils of snakes, Amithaba, the perils of drowning, lions, fire, elephants, ghosts, tyrants and robbers.
