LÉVIS (Pierre-Marc-Gaston, duc de).
Les Voyages de Kang-Hi ou Nouvelles lettres chinoises. Paris, De l'Imprimerie de P. Didot l'aîné, 1810. 2 volumes in one in-12, basane racinée, smooth spine decorated, red title page, red speckled edges (Binding of the period). First edition of this remarkable text of anticipation, relating the journey of a Chinese man and his wife in Europe, and mainly in Paris in 1910. Copy complete of the 3 folding sheets, described by Versins, Encyclopédie de l'utopie et de la science-fiction (pp. 480 and 534): The work contains, in two successive foldouts printed on both sides, [...] the "Journal du Déjeuner", issue of September 15, 1910, where it is mentioned, among other things, the discovery of a device, the "melodica-humana", which can imitate the human voice in all its inflections, as well as the Paris-Orleans railroad. Another leaflet reproduces the simultaneous conversation of three, then five people interrupting each other constantly, on a kind of musical staff. Deputy to the Constituent Assembly, the Duke of Levis (1764-1830) was elected to the Academy in 1816. A nice copy in contemporary basane racine. Small lack at the end of a jaw.
