LULLE (Raymond).
Ars brevis. Quae est ad omnes scientias pauco & brevi tempore... Paris, Gilles Gorbin, 1578. In-16, calf turned over, framed with cold fillets on the boards, spine with nerves (Modern binding). Rogent & Duran, n°121. Very rare 16th century edition of the Ars brevis by the famous Catalan philosopher and mystic. Given by the Franciscan theologian Bernard de Lavinheta (died 1530), it is decorated with a folding figure, another figure with scrolls, and a plate (Tabula generalis). Raymond Lulle was born around 1233 in Majorca and died a martyr in 1315-1316. He was beatified in 1419. In his Ars brevis, an abridged version of his Ars magna, he introduced and developed his method of philosophical teaching. A pleasant copy, well bound in the old style.
