BINDING. - MAROT (Clement) and Theodore de... - Lot 197 - Giquello
BINDING. - MAROT (Clement) and Theodore de BÈZE. Les Pseaumes de David, mis en rhyme françoise, et en Alemande par Ambrosius Lobwasser. S.l. [Geneva], Jacob Stoer, 1598. Large volume in-16, fawn calf, double gilt fillet, plate with interlacing and grotesque decoration around a central medallion in reserve, remains of clasps, spine decorated, gilt edges (period binding). Very rare bilingual edition, in Latin and German: of the 8 copies listed to date in the public collections by the online database GLN, none is found in France (GLN-1087). Title placed in a beautiful woodcut frame, with the mark of Stoer at the bottom. Beautiful binding decorated with a plate with interlacing and grotesque decoration, most certainly local and strictly contemporary to the edition it covers. Incomplete of 2 leaves (M7, and one leaf of the last quire Kkk which is probably the last leaf). Small paper loss at the bottom of leaf Q2 with loss of the advertisement. Some foxing and staining to some leaves. Restorations to the binding (corners, headpieces and spine), one spine split.
