In-12, blond calf, gilt fillet, ornate spine, interior roulette, red edges (period binding). First edition of this description of the collection of paintings of the regent Philippe d'Orléans (1674-1723), one of the most beautiful of the 18th century. This collection of about 500 paintings, some of them by the greatest names in painting (Rembrandt, Dürer, Van Dyck, Watteau, Le Brun, Holbein, Rubens, Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, etc.), adorned the different galleries of the Palais-Royal. Du Bois de Saint-Gelais (1669-1737), secretary of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, included in his detailed inventory a short biography of each artist. Small loss at the top cover and a crack at one of the spine ends.
