TOCCO (Carlo di).
Leges Longobardorum cum argutissimis Glosis. Venice, s.d. [at the colophon] : Venice, Domenico Lilio & brothers, Melchior Sessa, 1537. In-8, fawn calf, triple cold fillet, smooth spine decorated (17th century binding). Essential work for the legal history of Lombardy. The editio princeps of the famous commentary on the Lombard laws by Carlo di Tocco, an Italian jurisconsult who lived in the 12th and 13th centuries. Printed in Gothic type, it comes from the presses of Melchior Sessa, in Venice, whose typographic mark of a cat holding a mouse in its mouth appears on the title page. Tocco's gloss is accompanied by commentaries by Andrea Bonello (c. 1190-c. 1275) and Nicolas Bohier (1469-1539), president of the Parliament of Bordeaux and the first commentator on the customs of Berry. Old handwritten bookplate on the title, crossed out. Slight stain on a few leaves. One leaf misplaced in the S book. Modern endpapers, spine redone.
