On April 2 he thanks Mr. Petit for having communicated to him his "newspaper clippings" and adds "You will soon become one of the two or three men who will really know the schools and the world of the schools [...]", to his wife on November 20 he writes not without sadness "I have found the time to read [...] this beautiful book, your husband's testament. [...]"; COMBES Emile (1835-1921) L.A.S. and N.A.S., Tours October 16, 1895 and (s.l.n.d.). 1 p. and 2 half-pages in-8. On October 16, he worries about the health of the president; on a paper with the letterhead "Le Cri de Paris" a note pasted indicating "There is no tribe more precious for a man in power than an even temper [...] to keep it than the putting into practice of the old adage: Fais ce que dois, advienne que pourra"; CAILLAUX Joseph (1863-1944) L.A.S., Paris, September 5, 1911. He congratulates his correspondent and hopes that this letter will reach him well; DELESCLUZE Charles (1809-1871) 2 L.A.S. (s.l.n.d.) 3 ½ pp. in-16. "Tuesday" he gets annoyed "Why don't you go to the prefecture too and ask for a permit? Address yourself to the prefect, if the offices turn you away. I am not condemned to the hard quarry as far as I know. I am going to use all the means at my disposal to have this ban lifted" and (s.d.) "When will I be released? I don't know, because one knows when one enters prison [...] I will be very happy if I don't have a new condemnation"; FLOURENS Gustave (1838-1871) L.A.S. (s.l.) 3 July 1869. 1 p. in-8. Letter dealing with stewardship; MICHEL Louise (1839-1905) L.A.S. to "citizen Lueroin" (s.l.n.d.) 1 p. in-12. Address, some tears. She asks for a service "I am asked (immediately) for the history of Mandrin, can you send me to the library to take all the documents on him, trials, manuscripts [...]". Louis Mandrin, French smuggler; VAILLANT Édouard (1840-1915) 2 L.A.S. Rangate March 4, 1872 and Paris November 22, 1899. 2 ½ pp. in-8. March 4, 1872, beautiful letter in which he evokes the consequences of the Paris Commune for those who organized it and supports the ideas of his correspondent "I see with sorrow that like all those who did their duty and took up the cause of the people against their detestable enemies you had to suffer and bear like our poor condemned friends the punishment of our defeat [....] Your idea of establishing a secular school to defeat the clerical poisoning of the youth is excellent [...]; on November 22, 1899 he brings his help to his correspondent.
