Le Vaurien. Marcel Aymé began writing Le Vaurien in September 1930 and it was published in May 1931. This work disconcerted the critics by the renewal and the stylistic originality of Marcel Aymé. The action takes place in Montmartre. Set of 3 manuscripts. - Autograph manuscript, entitled "Bernard 1er formule" (s.l.n.d.1930). 27 pp. 21 x 31 cm and 21 x 27 cm in blue ink. Marcel Aymé uses black, violet and blue ink. One page is written in pencil. Some drawings. This manuscript is a draft of the novel Le Vaurien. Marcel Aymé uses two different papers: on the first and the last page, he writes a kind of plan of his novel. In this version of the novel Bernard and his family have a surname "Calet", whereas in the final version the name is not mentioned. - Autograph manuscript, (s.l.n.d. 1930/1931). 44 pp. 20 x 31 cm, blue ink. Some small drawings on several pages. This manuscript has no title. It is a more accomplished version of the Vaurien, the manuscript is complete and the writing becomes smaller and smaller from page 9. The text has no numbering, no chapter indications, but bears many erasures and corrections. - Autograph manuscript, (s.l.n.d. 1931). 106 pp. 21 x 32 cm, cardboard cover, pages are numbered, blue ink, On the cover the name "Marcel Aymé" is in the author's hand, but not the title of the novel. This manuscript is the final version of Le Vaurien. This version is complete and almost identical to the published text, there are a few tiny variations. The writing is very legible, with a few rare corrections and annotations in the margin. The hardback cover has some drawings by Marcel Aymé. The action takes place in Paris, mainly in Montmartre, just after the First World War. This novel parallels the destiny of two boys, Bernard and Pierre Jiquiaud, 25 years old and at odds with their father. The story is told by Bernard, in the first person.
