BEAUMARCHAIS Pierre-Augustin Caron de (1732-1799).
Voucher n° 420 for the complete works of M. de Voltaire, signed "Caron de Beaumarchais". 1 p. in-8 oblong. The first posthumous edition of Voltaire's works was one of the great cultural events of the last decade of the Ancien Régime. The printing house was located in a former Vauban fort of the defense of Strasbourg, converted into a printing complex, in Kehl. Beaumarchais successfully tried a new role as a publisher in the full sense of the term: He financed the company (from the enormous profits of his business as a shipowner and trader), he coordinated the whole editorial process (from the purchase of the presses to the marketing of the product), he finally animated, with an unprecedented mastery, for ten years, the announcement, recall and launch campaigns, the publicity hype which fixed on the "Voltaire of Kehl", in the center of the media space of the time, the eyes of French Europe.
