BERNARD Tristan (1866-1947).
Autograph manuscript signed. Title and signature on first page. (s.l.n.d.) 24 pp. 12 in-fol. Numerous erasures and corrections. Short story entitled En Casque et Sabre: the young student brigadier Simon tells with a certain humor his beginnings in the barracks, notably during the exercise on horseback which "constituted the great boredom of my life as a cavalryman" and yet he liked horses a lot before entering the cavalry. He befriended Aubin who took Marie as his mistress. This trio seems very close and spends their leisure time together; but Aubin commits a theft in the army to help Marie. A brigadier is unjustly accused. Simon then realizes that his friend does not want to denounce himself. Disillusioned by the lie and the loss of their friendship, Simon sacrifices himself by denouncing himself as the culprit of the theft.
