Small box with curved lid, wooden core covered with chagrin leather, iron hinges, lock with two hasps, heart-shaped plate, top handle. Interior decorated with prints, one decorated with a port city, the other with the ex libris of Charlotte Guillard marked C.CHEVALLON. 16th century H. 12 - L. 20 - D. 10 cm (Later key) The printer and bookseller Claude Chevallon (c.1479 - 1537) began his career in Paris around 1506 on rue Saint-Jean-de-Latran. His career really took off with his marriage to the widow of the bookseller Berthold Rembolt, Charlotte Guichard, in 1520. After his death in 1537, Charlotte Guichard continued to work in his workshop. Both have a similar bookplate, with the difference that Claude Chevallon's monogram is surrounded by two prancing horses while Charlotte Guichard's has two lions rampant.
