Rare pair of vases in white opaline glass mottled with cobalt blue and brick red. Baluster-shaped cylindrical body with long neck and full pedestal; decorated with three bands of blown spots. J. Geyssant. This type of glassware in opaque white opaline glass flecked with blue and red is typical of Nivernais production. Italian glassmakers from Altare in Liguria, who settled in Nevers in the mid-17th century, are credited with producing this opaque white glass, probably using calcium phosphate.
