Extraordinary letter to Henri Parisot, translator and publisher, close to the Surrealists, in which Artaud finds an analogy with Gérard de Nerval. ... A hundred years after his death, everyone in the world of letters deplores the grim end of the poet Gérard de Nerval's life. But who among his friends would have had the idea of avoiding it or relieving it. My present case is not without analogy with his, for Gérard de Nerval's so-called madness was the result of a concerted mass of bewitchments from all those jealous of his sublime Chimères poems, which stand at the pinnacle of everything man has ever written and thought. Gérard de Nerval realized this, but he sank and died. As far as I'm concerned, I haven't sunk and won't, and I don't think I'll die any time soon.
