Braque Georges. - Lot 74
Braque Georges. AUTOGRAPHIC POSTCARD SIGNED to Max JACOB, Avignon August 1912. Max Jacob and Georges Braque were very close, especially during the all-important Bateau-Lavoir period (Picasso Les Demoiselles d'Avignon 1907 - Braque Le Grand nu 1908). Formerly known as la maison du trappeur, the name Bateau-lavoir was coined by Max Jacob, who is said to have named it after its only watering place and the washing he saw drying outside. The card shows a fresco of the Palais des Papes in Avignon. ... We're in the middle of the countryside, far from everything, but the country and the climate don't make us forget the good times in Paris. If you knew Avignon, you could do some landscapes, but maybe the cards are enough for you. G.B.
