BRETON André. - Lot 91
BRETON André.
AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED to Noël ARNAUD and Hubert JUIN. Paris, July 2, 1947. One page in-4 on Cause letterhead, envelope retained.
Clarification from André Breton in response to Noël Arnaud's accusations:... in your opinion, hasn't it been established that I no longer have a revolutionary position, that I'm acting in bad faith, that I'm behaving like a Jesuit, etc.? you think you can maintain that it's slandering the Communists to accuse them of including slander in their methods; you think that to speak out against methods that tend to make me look like a policeman is to give undue importance to a derisory fact (sic). This makes it quite clear that we don't share the same conception of truth, uprightness and honor... as for me, I'm absolutely indifferent to the fact that the party you claim to be a member of rules as it pleases on the confusionist operations in question. I'm not angry that it should show you in this instance - as it still needs to - the value it places on free discussion in revolutionary organizations.
