GILBERT LECOMTE Roger. - Lot 184
GILBERT LECOMTE Roger. SELF-SIGNED notebook, pocket size, in-12 (9.5 x 15 cm), stapled, black moleskin cover, blue interior, top left ink signature: "R. Lecomte". 32 small-ruled leaves, 39 handwritten pages, poems and "dreams", 2 pages of drawings and 8 blank leaves in the middle [1925-1926]. The first 15 leaves have been cut out. Precious autograph notebook used in Pierre Minet and Jean Bollery's 1977 edition of Roger Gilbert-Lecomte's Poésies complètes, published by Gallimard. Some of his finest poems, such as "Les dieux manchots" (with some twenty corrections), belong to this notebook, designated in the Gallimard edition: Manuscrit petit carnet. Pierre Minet dates it from 1925. A small text, Après Entr'acte de Picabia. Dialogue dans le couloir, is dated Champs-Elysées 21-8-26. Roger Gilbert-Lecomte was then 18-19 years old, and the full force of his poetic genius, which makes him a direct heir to Rimbaud and Lautréamont, was already there: humor, "joie de vivre à l'envers" (P. Minet), the firm conviction that he was born to confront all the limits referred to here as "prenatal governance". Yet only one collection of poems appeared in his lifetime: "La vie la mort le vide et le vent", Cahiers libres 1933. None of the poems in this little notebook are included. It is composed as follows: POEMS AND DREAMS: -Les dieux manchots (63 lines with corrections), signed Rog Jarl. - I threw a carafe cork into the sea... . -I walk automatically... . -Dialogue on Entr'acte. -Complainte de tout souvenir, pourquoi pourquoi et à quoi bon (apparently unpublished).-????? Enclosed is a check payable to Le Grand Jeu for the sum of Dix-Huit francs by La Maison du Livre Français, dated May 30, 1930. In 1928, Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, René Daumal, Roger Vailland and Josef Sima founded the literary magazine "Le Grand Jeu". The 3rd and final issue of "Le Grand Jeu" appeared in autumn 1930. The first was dated summer 1928; the second spring 1929. The fourth, which was partly composed and scheduled for autumn 1932, could not be published due to lack of funds.
