GILBERT LECOMTE Roger. - Lot 184

GILBERT LECOMTE Roger. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED to Georges BATAILLE, editor-in-chief of Documents. Paris, Hôtel Primavera, January 13 [1930]. 2 pages in-4 (traces of adhesive not affecting the text). Letter from Roger Gilbert-Lecomte concerning an article commissioned by Bataille on the painter Josef Sima. ... I hope it will be suitable and that you won't find it too long: as you read it, you'll see that I've condensed it as much as possible. Now I would be grateful 1 if you would send me back the enclosed manuscript with the first proofs, as I have only one copy 2 the passages of this article that are already printed come from the preface I wrote for the catalog of the first Sima exhibition [1929]. I believe, however, that this very part of my article can be regarded as more or less unpublished, as not only were very few copies of this catalog printed, but most of them were left out because of the poor organization of the sale. No more than a hundred reached the public, both through the very limited press service and in advance. A rare item.
