HUGNET Georges. - Lot 201
HUGNET Georges.
9 AUTOGRAPH LETTERS SIGNED AND 4 POST CARDS SIGNED to Hans BELLMER. 1935-1937. 29 pages in-4, in-8, 4 postcards, 4 envelopes preserved.
Unpublished correspondence in which Georges Hugnet tells Bellmer about life in the Surrealist group before his arrival in Paris. ... There is still the same tug-of-war within Surrealism, and the situation is getting worse as regards Tzara, who is increasingly detaching himself from Surrealism and trying to put something else (what?) on his feet. There's a series of lectures planned for next spring - Surrealist lectures, of course -. As soon as it's printed, I'll send you the program. ... This exhibition takes place at the Galerie des Quatre chemins. The conditions are that each contributor delivers his or her framed drawings and leaves one of them with the gallery's director. The exhibitors are Miro, Ernst, Picasso, Tanguy, Dali, Dominguez, Man Ray, Magritte etc. ... I entrusted a friend with the task of sending you a rare book by Picabia, which I'm happy to give you... the poetic work is not well known, and that's a pity, because it's a thousand times better than the painter, who has become lamentable, and the uptight Dadaist, who has been decorated with the shitty Légion d'honneur. ... in connection with the performance of this play [Ubu enchaîné], a program will be published, a veritable little work containing texts (Eluard, Breton, Péret, Bataille, Prévert, myself) and illustrations about Jarry in general (Tanguy, Picasso, Duchamp, Dominguez, Dali, Man Ray, Max Ernst, who did the sets for Ubu enchaîné, and about you if you like.
