HUGO Victor. ORDER BILL SIGNED for Léonie D'AUNET. Hauteville [Guernsey]. May 2, 1869, 1 page in-12 in blue ink. I beg Mr Paul M to remit for me the sum of 250 fr to Madame L. D'Aunet. The bill is signed by Victor Hugo and countersigned by Léonie d'Aunet, Victor Hugo's secret love. Caught in flagrante delicto of adultery with Victor Hugo, she was locked up in Saint-Lazare, put on trial, separated from her husband and given no financial support. Victor Hugo flaunted his parliamentary immunity to her, and was left unmolested. In 1852, Adèle Hugo introduced Léonie d'Aunet to Parisian literary circles. Her book Le Voyage d'une femme au Spitzberg (A Woman's Journey to Spitsbergen) was a huge success.
